About
Native Tongue LLC is an independent software company building language learning apps for Apple platforms.
The company exists to solve a specific problem: the gap between the language you are taught and the language you hear. Most courses and dictionaries teach a formal written standard. Native speakers, in shops and kitchens and group chats, use something looser. Learners who only ever meet the formal version can pass an exam and still be lost in a normal conversation.
We build the tools that close that gap. Our first product, Puhekieli, does it for Finnish, a language where the split between written and spoken form is unusually wide.
What we make
Native apps, written in Swift and SwiftUI, for macOS and iOS. We do not wrap web views. We publish and support our software directly rather than licensing it out.
What we believe
- Teach the real register
- A tool that only shows the textbook form is teaching half the language. Both forms belong on screen together.
- Software should be quiet
- No advertising, no engagement mechanics designed to pull people back, no third party trackers. You come to the app when you need it.
- Own the whole product
